Third League Race - Stanley ParK - Tuesday 3rd October 2017

The third cross country league race for the 2017/2018 season takes place on Tuesday 3rd October 2017 at Stanley Park and is being hosted by Blessed Sacrament.
Thanks to St Sebastian's and St Cuthbert's schools who ran last week's event so well. Every member of staff got involved and those schools alone provided 18 marshalls. Thanks also to those schools who supplemented that fabulous number of matshalls, but that is the level of cover we now require for such a huge event to run smoothly.
First Aid
Please be aware that each school is responsible for the welfare of their own children. The organisers have a full first aid kit available for use but schools should administer their own first aid to their pupils, if required.
We have already mentioned the need for extra committee members but you can help on race days. Schools should provide a marshall who can assist the host school in the organisation of the race. There may be up to 200 children in each race and the more marshalls we can have around the course, the easier it is to facilitate the safe running of the children. No one organising school can provide enough helpers on their own. Please step forward and make this the best season yet for the fastest growing school sport.
If we cannot get enough marshalls for each race we may have to require schools to provide them for specific races. The League is now too large for the burden to fall on just the organising school, so please step up tomorrow with extra help.
Health and Safety
Whilst the issue of marshalls speaks to health and safety, schools should be mindful of their obligations to their own children. Schools are responsible for the well-being of their children. Children should be adequately trained. Please also bear in mind that, despite all the hoops we jump through to use our beautiful city parks, there are no toilet facilities in them.
It is also the responsibility of schools to make sure that their children and supporters adhere to the rules of the competition. The course for all races will be 1500m and please note that running spikes are not allowed.  Parents should also kindly be reminded not to pace their children in any way during the race.  This includes running alongside the children, or cycling around the race route.  This may result in the disqualification of runners / teams.
Please return your fully completed results sheets and envelopes straight after your races. Children’s full names should be filled in. It is not enough just to put ‘Billy’ etc. We need surnames. Please make sure that the finishing tokens go in with the results' sheet. I had an empty envelope last week and some people are putting tokens in either wallet. Every result is checked.
